This year I decided to do the Best Buddies Challenge. (You may have seen the commercials on NBC, etc., with Tom Brady. I’m actually on Team Tom Brady.) On June 2, 2012, I will be walking 5 kilometers in support of Best Buddies. This challenge you can bike 100, 50, or 20 miles or run/walk 5K. If you are unfamiliar with Best Buddies, it’s a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with all forms of intellectual disabilities. Best Buddies operates in all 50 states and in over 46 countries, and the organization focuses on pairing people with intellectual disabilities with volunteers in one-to-one friendships. These programs take place in middle schools, high schools, colleges, and in the community, through the Citizens Program and electronically through e-buddies. The Best Buddies Jobs program helps people with intellectual disabilities find competitive jobs in the community.
Now that you know a bit more about what Best Buddies is, I am sure you will agree with me that this is an important cause! The Best Buddies Challenge is one of the major fundraising events which allows Best Buddies to continue running and expanding their important programs. In order to participate in this event I need to raise $2,000, and I would love to have your support through a donation to Best Buddies. Every donation counts, however large or small, so please consider giving whatever you can. Your donation will support people with intellectual disabilities and help to end decades of job discrimination and social isolation. Your donation truly will change lives. All donations are tax-deductible so please visit my website at www.hpchallenge2012.org/elise3389 and make your donation today!
This is an organization I feel very passionate about as I have grown up learning and seeing disabilities all around me and have geared my studies to helping people with disabilities.
