Beach renovation presentation
The Harvard Parks and Recreation Commission, in conjunction with the Bare Hill Pond Watershed Committee, will present at the Hildreth House on April 23 at 7:30 p.m. a proposed design for the renovation of the Town Beach boat launch and beach parking area.
The goal of the renovation project is to address existing environmental issues, while improving both the safety and aesthetics of the boat launch area. This project is designed to reduce the amount of erosion from the beach and the area surrounding the boat launch. It will also collect and treat the water coming off the pavement before entering the pond. The major impact of the new design will be to limit the parking in the area and to better define the bounds of the beach and the launch area. The work is planned for this fall and will coincide with the annual draw down.
A copy of the proposed plan is available on the town Parks and Recreation website.
Absentee ballots available
Absentee ballots for the town election on May 1 are now available at the Town Clerk’s office. Any voter who will be out of town during polling hours on the day of the election, or who will be unable to vote in person due to physical disability or religious belief, may request an absentee ballot. Massachusetts does not allow absentee voting at will. See the following link to the town’s website for more detail or for an application: www.harvard.ma.us/Pages/HarvardMA_Clerk/ab.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot is noon the day before the election. If your ballot needs to be mailed out, allow additional time for mail delivery. The ballot must be received by the Town Clerk before the close of polls on election day. Ballots may not be hand carried out of the office.
Earth Day Fair looking for cars
The Earth Day Fair at Harvard’s Hildreth Elementary School is looking for a few cool cars. If you or someone you know has a re-engineered car that runs on an alternative fuel (like corn oil) or unique technology (solar), consider sharing it at the Earth Day Fair. The fair is open to the public on Thursday, May 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. Contact Kim Manning at themanningclan@yahoo.com or 978-456-2721 for more information.
Collection for Friends of Library book sale
The Friends of the Harvard Public Library annual book sale begins on Friday, May 11. This is the main fundraising event for the Friends. Book collection is on Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to noon, through May 5 at the old library on Fairbank Street. The Friends ask that those who donate books bring no encyclopedias, magazines, or moldy books.
The Friends are looking for volunteers to help sort and work at the sale. Contact Chris Frechette at 978-456-4114 and leave a message.
