Bromfield students selected for honors bands

The following local students have been selected to participate in the John Philip Sousa National Honor Bands–New England Region on April 19, 20, and 21 at the Bromfield School: Veronica Lee, Paul Chapman, Margaret Opalka, Carlisle Ferguson, Philip Kuong, William Codner, Daniel Jackson, Arielle Sclar, Lara Schmoyer, Sierra Gomez, Sam Beebe, Angela Hu, David Etzel, Nina Sklar, Kee Hwang Lee, Jessica Andrews, Janet Sorrells, Dylan Molnar, Bailey Grullon, Felicia Deng, Brigitte Lewis, Drew Femino, Isaac Abouaf, Seal Bin Han, and Lucy Opalka.

The festival is open to the most outstanding woodwind, brass, and percussion players from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont in grades seven through 12. More than 1,200 schools in this six-state region were mailed invitations to recommend students for this special event, and approximately 150 students were selected from among the many applications received. A concert will be given at the conclusion of the festival on April 21 at 3 p.m. in the Cronin Auditorium at Bromfield. Admission for the concert is $10 per person. There will be two honor bands. One group will be an honors symphonic band, consisting primarily of students from grades nine through 12. The second group will be an honors junior concert band, consisting primarily of students from grades seven and eight.
