With at least another week of warm weather in the forecast and Harvard schools closed for their winter break, a crew from the town’s sewer contractor was back at work on Oak Hill Road this week.
As he set out day-glo cones to temporarily detour traffic on Wednesday, a spokesman for Weston & Sampson, the firm hired to oversee sewer construction, told the Press that because of the spring-like weather of late February, crews from Ricciardi Brothers had resumed efforts to connect the remaining properties on the northeast side of town center to the sewer mains that were laid last fall.
Once they finish connecting homes on Oak Hill Road, the spokesman said, crews will connect the old library and other properties on Old Littleton and Littleton roads, and then move on to Massachusetts Avenue.
In the meantime, Ricciardi workers passed a major milestone at the Massachusetts Avenue wastewater plant on Tuesday when they completed installation of a 28,000-gallon cement holding tank, one of three of varying sizes at the heart of the new system. Because of its large size, the tank had to be custom built, delivered in sections, and then assembled at the site.
Though the Town Center Sewer Building Committee has not held a team meeting since Jan. 4, the town website continues to reserve a weekly slot for the group in the Town Hall Meeting Room at 7:30 a.m. every Wednesday morning. In his last newsletter on Jan. 5, Town Administrator Tim Bragan wrote that weekly updates for town residents would resume once crews returned to town roadways, work that was originally expected to begin again in April.
