The Bromfield boys indoor track team ran to a sixth-place place finish at the Division 4 State championships on Feb. 18 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
Bromfield’s 4×800-meter relay team was crowned Division 4 state champion, with a time of 8:29.73. Senior Nick Kronauer ran the first leg and built a big lead, with sophomore Paul Malloy, freshman Price Day, and senior Ellis Toll all running gutsy races to hold off pursuers and secure the victory.
Top individual performers were Kronauer, who finished second in the mile with a time of 4:27.5, and junior Patrick Griffin, who finished fifth in the 600-meter run, with a time of 1:25.8.
Other Bromfield performances included Toll’s and Day’s ninth- and tenth-place finishes in the two-mile, with a time of 10:08 and 10:08.8, respectively.
Also, Malloy finished 11th in the 1,000-meter (2:45.9), junior Dan Colony finished 15th in the 300-meter (38.45), and senior Deji Oyekunle heaved the shot put 38 feet 3 inches for 18th place.
The highlight of the girls championship for Bromfield was sophomore Alexia Lipman’s first-place finish in the 1,000-meter, with a time of 2:57.67.
The girls 4×200-meter relay team of Moriah Arnold, Emma Hall, Reiney Foster, and Alyssa Johnson finished fifth with a time of 1:51.83. Arnold also had a great run in the 55-meter hurdles, just missing the finals by a hundredth of a second.
