The Bromfield middle school cross country team sent eight runners to compete in the Massachusetts Middle School State Championships last weekend in Tewksbury. This is the second year in a row that Tewksbury hosted the prestigious meet.

The eighth-grade girls were represented by Kate Toll, Katie Erdos, and Bethany Ross. Toll finished sixth out of 109 eighth graders this year, completing the same course 40 seconds faster than she did last year.

Running in their first state championships, Erdos finished strong in 31st place, while Ross completed the course in 92nd place.

On the boys’ side, Nick Steele upped his performance from last year, finishing 11th out of 172 eighth-grade competitors. His time of 10:13 on the 1.7 mile course was over a minute faster than he ran as a seventh-grader last year.

Also running for Bromfield in the eighth-grade race was Ian Rowatt, placing 122nd. The Seventh-grade boys were represented by Will Day (42nd), Paul Chapman (47th), and Jamie Barrett (84th).
