The boys and girls Bromfield cross country teams competed in the Ocean State Invitational last weekend at Goddard Park in Warwick, R.I. The meet draws top runners from New England, New York, and Pennsylvania.

The top performance for the Trojans was turned in by Price Day, finishing second in a field of over 170 competitors in the boys freshman race, with a time of 13:56 for the 4 kilometer course. Bromfield’s freshman team finished eighth out of 19 teams. Besides Day, scoring members included eighth grader Nick Steele and freshmen Matt Polimou, Phil Kuong, and Nick Norcross.

In the boys varsity race, Ellis Toll faced his first real competition of the season in the tough invitational field of 280 runners. Toll finished a strong 25th place, completing the 5 kilometer race in 17:43, a full 25 seconds faster than his time last year on the same course. Toll remains undefeated in league competition this season.

On the varsity girls side, freshman Sophia Collins placed 27th out of 240 runners, with Kate Toll (an eighth grader) close behind in 35th.

The varsity girls team finished tenth out of 34 squads. Other scorers for the Trojans included Kate Rowatt, Shannon Barrett, and Julie Gormley.
