The Congregational Church of Harvard recently announced that Dr. James Dwight is the church’s new director of Christian Education. Dwight comes to the Congregational Church of Harvard from Pennsylvania with his wife, Dr. Linda Dwight, the new principal at Hildreth Elementary School, and their two preschool boys, Tim and Jake.
Dwight has a doctorate in the philosophy of education along with a master’s degree in divinity and in English. This fall Jim will be teaching English composition and rhetoric at Mt. Wachusett Community College.
The church said in a statement, “We are blessed to have Jim bring some terrific experience in leading youth fellowship and some very exciting missions work in a variety of locations ranging from the Lakota Reservation to Mississippi hurricane relief to Cairo’s Trash City.”
Under Dwight’s leadership, the planning for the new Sunday school year is well underway. There will be Sunday school classes taught by parent volunteers in pre-k through high school. Infant and toddler child care is available in the newly decorated nursery during the Sunday services, which run from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by coffee hour in the new Fellowship Hall. Dwight will also be offering various adult education events such as book study, discussions related to the Bible and faith, as well as outdoor activities around town.
The new Sunday school year will begin on Sept. 11. In addition, a third grade communion program and eighth grade confirmation program are offered in the fall. Contact the church office at 978-456-8788 or office@harvarducc.com for further information or to register your child for Sunday school. The church is at 5 Still River Road directly next to the Harvard General Store. Visitors are always welcome, the church says.
