The Bromfield boys and girls cross country teams scored victories in their races against Ayer and Clinton in the first contest of the Mid-Wach C season on Thursday, Sept. 8.
Winning the overall boys race for Bromfield was Ellis Toll, who completed the soggy 3.1 mile course posting a time of 17:53. Also scoring for Bromfield was Price Day, who finished third overall, and Drew Banker who finished fifth for the Trojans.
Sam Dyer finished sixth and Nick Steele finished ninth to round out the victory, beating Ayer by a score of 19 to 62 and Clinton 20 to 30 (lowest score wins).
The top runner for the Ayer Boys was Jay Jewitt, who finished second overall, and the top runner for Clinton was Jack Kousouvlos, who finished fourth overall.
“There were some big hills, and it was a little slippery, but it was fun,” said freshman Sophia Collins, who won the girls race. Collins completed the course in 21:18, far ahead of teammate Kate Toll, who placed second in the race with a time of 23:36. Kate Rowatt—a new student at Bromfield, having moved from Singapore this summer—was fifth, followed by senior Molly Gormley, and then sophomores Shannon Barrett and Julie Gormley.
Senior Hannah Keaney was ninth in a fine showing on a tough course.
Hannah Levensailor placed third in a strong effort for Ayer, and Allyson Holfinger finished fourth overall to lead the Clinton Harriers.
The Bromfield girls were victorious over Clinton by a score of 18 to 51 and Clinton by a score of 18 to 53.
