My father was an avid Shaker enthusiast. We used to tramp through the forest from our home on Ayer Road to visit the Holy Hill site and the Shaker Cemetery. As long as I can remember, the Shaker cemetery markers were white. So after reading previous letters in the Press, I recently went to the cemetery site where I found two other Shaker enthusiasts studying the newly powder-coated markers. They were happy that the markers are now easily readable and were taking rubbings.
I believe the Cemetery Commission needs financial support to continue to preserve this historical site. If the Cemetery Commision will accept a gift of $1,000 to continue their work on the markers, I will write them a check and I hope others will do the same.
