DEP gives go-ahead on town center sewer

June 3, 2011

On Tuesday, the Press learned that the town center sewer project cleared a major hurdle. Chris Ashley, chairman of the Town Center Sewer Building Committee, gave the Press a copy of a letter received earlier in the day by Town Administrator Tim Bragan from Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), granting approval for plans to upgrade Harvard’s wastewater treatment facility. This approval allows the town to request bids on construction. Ashley said that a bid deadline would be set for approximately 30 days, and that conceivably, construction could begin in five or six weeks. He pointed out that there are still many details to be sorted out, but he was very happy to have cleared this hurdle, which has been holding up the process for several months.
