Merrimack Valley Artisans: A new beginning

May 20, 2011

As the new president of Merrimack Valley Artisans, I am pleased to announce that a wonderful season of fine arts and crafts awaits visitors of the Artisans’ 22nd annual Show and Sale, set for the weekend of Oct. 22 and 23. The show will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

The Merrimack Valley Artisans, (formerly, the Dunstable Artisans), not only has a new name, but also a new show location. This year’s Show and Sale will take place at the Elks Lodge, Route 110, 300 Littleton Road in Chelmsford. There is plenty of free parking, and it is convenient to Route 3 and Interstate 495.

The Show and Sale will feature original, handcrafted work by its juried members and guest artists, including oil, watercolor and pastel paintings, fiber art and weaving, ceramics, sculpted wood, silver and gold jewelry, bead-woven jewelry, glass, photography, collage; and hand-woven baskets.

This year’s event will continue to support the group’s college scholarships program through corporation sponsors, the show’s raffle, and the $2 admission donation.

Each year, two high school seniors from area schools are awarded a college scholarship to help them further their education in the arts. This outreach has become an important part of the Merrimack Valley Artisans’ mission and helped numerous students get started in the arts. For the 2008-2009 academic year one of those scholarships was awarded to Jenna Tomasello, a graduate of the Bromfield School.

For more information about the Merrimack Valley Artisans, and if you are an artist who might be interested in being juried into the group or becoming a guest artist in our show, please visit www.merrimackvalleyartisans.org or call 978-597-5464.
