Family Movie Night
The Harvard Public Library will host a family movie night for all ages Friday, March 4, at 6:30 p.m., with popcorn and water. Preregister so the library will know how much popcorn to buy.
Art and Science of Slow Movement
A free panel discussion on effective strategies to improve strength, fitness, and flexibility using a variety of different slow movement modalities will take place Saturday, March 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Healing Garden on Bolton Road. Participants will be introduced to qigong, restorative yoga, core integration, and tai chi. An eight-week series of classes will follow, featuring two sessions of each type of movement. Participants at the Saturday discussion are encouraged to sample some of the offerings, as well as meet with each instructor. Each two-hour class will be $30 for members or $35 for nonmembers. Birds in the Commonwealth

Communion Series
The Congregational Church of Harvard invites third-grade students, both church members and nonmembers alike, to participate in a Communion Series. Three classes will explore what Communion is, what it means, and how to take part in it within the United Church of Christ community. The classes will be led by a Christian Education parent volunteer on early release Wednesdays, March 9 and March 23, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church of Harvard. Festival of Cultures
The Harvard PTO Festival of Cultures will be held Friday, March 11, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Hildreth Elementary School (HES). The event will begin with each visitor picking up a passport and “traveling” the world from 6 to 7:15 p.m. in the HES gym. “Ambassadors” from almost 20 countries will share their culture and crafts. There will also be an international silent auction of internationally themed items. No food is served at the event; attendees are advised to eat before arriving. The second portion of the evening, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the cafetorium, will include performances from a variety of different cultures by local children. Harvard Lions Club Annual Fruit Sale
The Harvard Lions Club’s 20th annual Citrus Fruit Sale will offer royal ruby red grapefruit and Valencia oranges from Florida beginning Saturday, March 12. The fruit will be available on a cash-and-carry basis in 20-pound boxes for $25 and 40 pound boxes for $35. Fruit sale stations will be set up at the Harvard Transfer Station Saturdays, March 12 and 19, and Wednesday, March 16; at the Harvard Town Center on Saturdays, March 12 and 19, and Sundays, March 13 and 20; and at the Boxborough Transfer Station Saturdays, March 12 and 19. Women’s health forums sponsored by League of Women Voters
Two health-care forums organized by the Massachusetts League of Women Voters will be held this month to explore women’s health care issues. The first will be Saturday, March 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham. The second will be March 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wesley Methodist Church in Hadley. Among the speakers will be Harvard resident Georgia Sassen, who will be at the Framingham forum to discuss psychological challenges women face throughout their lives.
Both forums, which are free and open to the public, will feature question-and-answer sessions, as well as health fairs with health-care related exhibitors. Nurses and social workers can earn free Continuing Education Units for attending the forums.
The League of Women Voters has raised more than $10,000 from sponsors to put on the forums, and will tape both sessions so women too busy to attend can also be reached. Fifty DVDs of the discussions will be sent out to the League chapters in Massachusetts to show on local cable stations and to be donated to local libraries. Battling the Asian Longhorned Beetle
The Nashua River Watershed Association (NRWA) will host a free presentation about the invasive Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) Tuesday, March 15, at 7 p.m. at the NRWA River Resource Center, 592 Main St. in Groton. The beetle attacks and kills many hardwood trees, such as maple, elm, horse chestnut, ash, birch, poplar, and willow. Almost 30,000 infested trees have already been removed in Massachusetts.
