Municipal Building Committee finally gets a hearing
At the biweekly BOS meeting Tuesday, Chairman Peter Warren announced that the selectmen would hold a public hearing March 1 in Volunteers Hall at the public library on options developed by the Municipal Building Committee (MBC) for renovating Town Hall, the old library, and Hildreth House. This will be the first opportunity for residents to express their opinions directly to the BOS on the MBC’s recommendations, although the recommendations have been available in draft form since mid-December. Following the hearing, selectmen will debate and vote on a warrant article for residents to consider at the 2011 Annual Town Meeting.
The MBC was appointed by the selectmen in 2010 to develop recommendations for the three town-owned buildings in town center. The MBC has conducted public workshops, developed conceptual plans for each building, and developed cost estimates for what MBC Chairman Ron Ostberg calls a “Chinese menu” of options. By the time this paper goes to press, residents will also have heard a complete presentation by the committee on Feb. 17 at Volunteers Hall. Copies of the multi-volume MBC report are available on the town website as well as the reference desk at public library.
