I work with the Anti-Defamation League’s Camp IF, a seven-month initiative that brings together Muslim, Christian, and Jewish teens across the New England region to explore each other’s faith traditions and develop the leadership skills needed to create interfaith dialogue, understanding, and respect. This fall, Camp IF worked with Special Olympics to advertise a campaign called “Spread the Word to End the Word,” promoted by the Special Olympics to end the use of the word retarded—the “R” word.
Last Sunday 10 Bromfield students I recruited took part in a Camp IF-sponsored basketball tournament that brought together teams of Special Olympic Athletes, members with intellectual disabilities, and Unified Partners, who were high school basketball players, to have a fun game and help spread the word about the “R” word.
