Members of the Bromfield girls track team rose early Sunday, Jan. 23, to compete in the James Kalperis MSTCA Indoor State Relays at the Reggie Lewis center in Boston and came home with the first place trophy for their efforts. The Division IV race pitted teams from small schools across the sate in the yearly relays event.
The Bromfield foursome of Sydney Durant, Alexia Lipman, Kim West, and Mimi Narbonne began the day with a victory in the 4x 800-meter relay, and finished the day with a victory in the 4×400-meter relay. The conclusion of the meet was tense as Bromfield trailed Old Rochester Regional and Lunenburg going into the 4x400M, the final race of the day. Bromfield entered two relay teams to compete in the final event, which included 23 teams. The Bromfield “A” relay team won the event, and the “B” team finished in 6th place, picking up a valuable score to help win the entire meet.
Bromfield led the field with 37 points, followed by Old Rochester Regional at 34, Hamilton-Wenham at 30, Lunenburg at 28, and Newburyport at 20, in a competition that featured more than three dozen schools.
Also placing first in the meet was Caroline Turnbull, who cleared 5 feet, 1 inch to lead all competitors in the high jump, and along with Vishwa Rasania and Elizabeth Noyes, placed third in the high jump relay.
The Bromfield 4×200 team of Moriah Arnold, Emma Hall, Colby Newsham, and Alyssa Johnson came in fourth—running 1:55.0, the team’s fastest time for that relay distance this year.
Running the distance medley for Bromfield were Emma Rothkopf, Sophia Collins, Alyssa Swindells, and Alice Kennedy. The distance relay team place third in the competition, behind Weston and Lunenburg.
The Bromfield sprint medley team of Margaret Kibbler, Elizabeth Noyes, Caroline Turnbull, and Julia Alexander placed 10th in the competition.
