The Bromfield boys and girls track teams were both victorious in a double-dual track meet Saturday, Jan. 8, at Wachusett Regional High School. The boys and girls demonstrated skill and talent, placing first in most events over their opponents, Narragansett and Littleton.
In a double-dual meet, each team competes against two other opponents in the same meet, with separate head-to-head scores determining the outcome for each dual combination. Boys coach David Boisvert says, “It’s almost as if you’re having two track meets going on simultaneously.”
The Bromfield boys team defeated Littleton 65 to 26, and Narragansett, 63 to 28. The Trojans placed first against both schools in the shot put, high jump, 2-mile, 1-mile, 55-meter hurdles, 300-meter, 1000-meter, and 4×200 relay.
The Bromfield boys swept several races, in which they placed first, second, and third. Freshman Price Day, sophomore Leo Pero, and sophomore Graham Fedderson finished in the top three in the 2-mile against Littleton, with times of 11 minutes 36.4 seconds, 12 minutes 6.5 seconds, and 12 minutes 59.0 seconds, respectively. In addition, junior Nick Kronauer, freshman Paul Malloy, and sophomore Ellis Toll swept the 1,000-meter.
Another impressive race included sophomore Glenn Steranka’s 55-meter hurdle. He placed first against both Narragansett and Littleton, with a time of 9.3 seconds. Sophomore Samuel Beebe followed close behind, with a time of 10.2 seconds, placing second against Narragansett.

In addition to victories in the races, the boys destroyed their opponents in all field events. Junior Deji Oyekunle and senior Miles Jarvis placed first and second in shot put against both schools, with distances of 36 feet, and 35 feet and 1 inch, respectively. Roniel Foster and Glenn Steranka placed first and third at the high jump.
Coach David Boisvert said, “I’m happy that we defeated both Narragansett and Littleton. We did very well in most of the races. Regardless, we’ll need a lot more training to be able to defeat Murdock. They have some extremely fast runners, and we have to be ready for them.”
The Trojan girls shared in the glory as they outscored Littleton 75 to 15 and Narragansett 56 to 35. They placed first against both schools in the high jump, 1-mile, 1,000-meter, 600-meter, 55-meter hurdles, 4×200-meter relay, and 4×400-meter relay.
Sophomore Moriah Arnold outran Littleton and Narragansett at the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.50 seconds, putting her several strides ahead of her competition. The 1-mile wowed onlookers as Bromfield swept against Littleton with senior Emma Rothkopf, eighth-grader Sophia Collins, and seventh-grader Kate Toll finishing first, second, and third, respectively.
Other first-place victories went to freshman Alexia Lipman who placed first in the 1,000-meter, with a time of 3 minutes 20.8 seconds, and Mimi Narbonne, who placed first in the 600-meter, with a time of 1 minute 49.2 seconds.
Caroline Turnbull and Vishwa Rasania crushed their opponents at the high jump, placing first and second, respectively, with heights of 4 feet 10 inches, and 4 feet 8 inches. Sophomore Rhett Nuenighoff threw shotput at a distance of 22 feet 3 inches, placing first against Littleton.
“It was a great team effort,” according to coach Ray Dunn. “We had some great winning performances, but we really owe our success to the strong performances of the entire team. The second- and third-place finishes really contributed in a huge way to our team victories.”
