Harvard Town Caucus to be held Feb. 12
The Board of Selectmen set the date for Harvard’s town caucus as Feb. 12 at 7 p.m., in the Town Hall meeting room. The town caucus nominates candidates for various town offices. This year, the following town positions are open:
- moderator (one-year term)
- two selectmen (three-year terms)
- cemetery commissioner (three-year term)
- two Community Preservation Committee positions (three-year terms)
- constable (three-year term)
- Board of Health (one three-year term)
- Housing Authority (five-year term)
- two Library Trustees (three-year terms)
- two Parks and Recreation commissioners (three-year terms)
- three Planning Board positions (one two-year term and two three-year terms)
- two school committee positions (three-year terms)
- tree Warden (one-year term)
- two Warner Free Lecture Society trustees (two three-year terms)
- two Water Commission positions (three-year terms)
Devens residents petition to become a town
Chairman Peter Warren reported that Devens citizens have petitioned the Massachusetts Legislature to become a town. The petition was submitted by the Devens Committee to State Senator Jamie Eldridge’s office, which, in turn, submitted the petition as a bill to the legislature. The petition states, “The Devens Regional Enterprise Zone (DREZ) is not incorporated as an independent political entity, and the DREZ residents are not fully vested members of the host communities under MGL 498; therefore DREZ residents have no legal or official voice on all major issues affecting it. The residents of the DREZ lack the right of self government which is granted to every other citizen in the commonwealth.”
