The Press Asks: Fresh or fake?

December 17, 2010

This week the Press asked folks around town if they were preferred fresh cut Christmas trees or artificial. Here’s what they told us.

Ben Farwell, Bowers Road

“Fresh, of course. Artificial trees are sacrilegious.”

Susan Andrews, Harvard Public Library

“We don’t actually get a tree. We have some Ficus trees at our house and we decorate them. That way we don’t kill anything. Sometimes we get a wreath as well.”

Della Jennings, Ayer Road

“I prefer fresh. I like the fragrance. My children like the experience of getting the tree. It’s fun to pick it out.”

Marylynn Gentry, Harvard Conservation Trust

“Fresh. Rootball is what I prefer.”

Roanne Robbins, Honeyfield Flowers at the General Store

“Fresh. The fragrance of the tree draws me in. And you can use the pieces you trim from the tree to decorate around the house.”

Chris Sweeney, Babbitt Lane

“Real trees. You can’t have a fake tree.”
