With the recent return of cold weather, we are reminded of the upcoming second anniversary of the “Great Ice Storm of 2008.” In the days following that storm, one of the difficulties encountered by town officials in dealing with the storm damage was being able to communicate the town’s relief activities with our residents.
As many may already know, the town of Harvard now has an emergency call system. This service is called Connect-CTY and is provided by Blackboard Connect. They also provide the Connect-ED service used to contact school parents of items relating to the schools. Because of privacy issues, these systems cannot share information. The Connect-CTY system uses publicly available information to automatically call landline phones located in Harvard. It may not reach unlisted numbers, cell phones or some VOIP phones.
