The Bromfield varsity boys and girls cross-country teams are in their post-season, competing Nov. 6 in the second annual Massachusetts State Cross-Country Invitational in Tewksbury and the Midland Wachusett League championships at Tahanto Regional High School. Both the girls and boys teams brought strong performances to the matches, with runners taking firsts in both meets.
At the Tewksbury event, which drew more than 1,300 runners from across the commonwealth, Bromfield eighth-grader Sophia Collins finished first in the eighth-grade competition, completing the 1.7-mile course in 10:48. Also competing in that race were Brianna Harte and K.J. Frost, who finished 23rd and 24th, respectively. Kate Toll, running in the seventh-grade race, finished 18th, completing the course in 12:06.
Top finisher in Tewksbury for the Bromfield boys was Price Day, who finished fourth in the grade-8 race in 9:51, leading Nick Norcross, who was 34th; Phillip Kuong, who placed 36th; and Matt Polinou, who came in 70th. Competing in the boys grade-7 race were Nick Steele, who placed 25th, and Brian Johnson, who placed 58th.
In the Mid Wach C League finals, the Bromfield girls scored 67 points, to finish second overall behind Narragansett, which won with a score of 37. Collins was Bromfield’s number-one finisher, placing eighth overall, followed by Mimi Narbonne in 10th, Rachel Leicher in 13th, Alice Kennedy in 16th, and Harriet Hill in 20th.

The Bromfield boys also placed second in the Mid Wach C boys final behind Oakmont, which won 47-63. Bromfield’s Nick Kronauer was the overall league winner in 19:41, followed by Ellis Toll in fourth place, Price Day in 13th, William Sullebarger in 18th, and Leo Pero in 27th.
The final races for the cross-country program will be the Central Mass championships, which will be held at the Gardner Golf Course Saturday, Nov. 16, and the MIAA All-State Championships on Nov. 19, also at Gardner.
