On a crisp and clear autumn day, approximately 3,000 people came to the town of Harvard to hunt for treasures. That’s almost half the town’s population. These folks walked the aisles perusing the 170 booths filled with antiques, toys, furniture, jewelry, household goods, memorabilia and more.
This exciting undertaking could not have been accomplished without the dozens of volunteers from the Harvard community, the Harvard Public Schools, the League of Women Voters, and the Harvard Schools Trust. Many folks were out there Oct. 9 on a dark, cold morning, setting up for one of Harvard’s largest and most anticipated annual events.
It’s this lovely coming together of the various groups in town, the prevailing community spirit, that made the day have that extra sparkle.
The 39th annual Columbus Day Weekend Flea Market was a smashing success on all accounts. The proceeds from this event will be evenly split between the League of Women Voters of Harvard and the Harvard Schools Trust. Next year will be the big 40th annual Columbus Day Weekend Flea Market and we are already brainstorming some exciting ideas to commemorate this landmark year. So mark your calendars now for Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011.
