Schools to invest in energy efficiency
After an in-depth discussion of energy expenses, the School Committee voted at its Oct. 12 meeting to reinvest up to $10,000 of the expected savings in further projects to promote energy efficiency. The decision allowed the committee to meet the deadline for an agreement with National Grid, by which the energy company will finance the improvements, and the costs to the schools will be spread over three years. The anticipated payback period is 2.1 years, with the possibility of additional savings if the Bromfield School also converts from oil to natural gas.
Board to seek funding for five capital requests
The School Committee voted to support five capital requests, including $65,000 for the new playground at the Hildreth Elementary School (HES); $30,000 for converting heating system at Bromfield to natural gas; $30,000 to hook up the Bromfield House to the new town sewer; $20,000 for new planks at the Bromfield walkway; and $10,000 to replace the carpeting in the HES office area.
