Green Communities support the greater good

October 15, 2010

I cannot believe the selectmen failed to approve supporting the Green Communities Grant. If there is one thing this country needs it is increased energy efficiency. I think that initiating energy conservation at the local level will send a strong message to our national leadership that this country needs to do something, and do it now, to start lessening our dependence on fossil fuels.

As the codesigner of what I think is Harvard’s first L.E.E.D. building (the Unitarian Fellowship Building), I can attest to the benefit of increased insulation and other features over and above the “code” that make a truly energy-efficient building.

I hope, when the Green Communities Grant comes to a vote again, that selectmen vote in support of this for the greater good of our community.
