Board approves EDC charter
The Planning Board approved the charter of the Economic Development Committee (EDC) at its Sept. 13 meeting. The committee, established by a vote at this year’s Annual Town Meeting, is tasked with pursuing development opportunities in the town’s commercial district on Ayer Road. The mission statement, made available at the meeting, says the purpose of the committee is to “increase the economic value of, and the associated revenue from, Harvard’s commercial district by attracting desired community services that are consistent with the current character of the town.”
The proposed charter calls for a five-member volunteer committee with three-year staggered terms, with members jointly appointed by the Board of Selectmen and the Planning Board.
Permit approved, contingent on appeal period
The Planning Board agreed to renew the special permit and driveway site plan for a wireless communications tower owned and operated by Cingular Wireless on Brown Road, on the condition that the town is allowed to install wireless devices for municipal emergency services. The owners agreed to the condition as long as the town’s equipment did not cause interference with the existing equipment, and that all equipment is purchased and maintained at no cost to them. The board concurred and unanimously passed the motion to approve, contingent on the 20-day appeal period open to citizens.
Scenic road violation discussion continued
The board decided that the discussion from its previous meeting, regarding the scenic road violation at the Stow Road home of Paul and Hillary Kavanagh, should be continued to its next meeting, on Sept. 20, because the owners were unable to attend the Sept. 14 meeting.
