I am excited to announce the Harvard Conservation Trust’s first annual “Run for the Hills” 5K Trail Run/Walk on Sept. 12, 2 p.m., at Harvard Park. The course is a spectacular trail that travels through scenic woodland and field paths beginning and ending at the McCurdy track.
Co-sponsored by the Harvard Road Race Association, the precisely measured route will be computer-timed by a professional timing company. Following the race, there will be light refreshments and an awards ceremony. Awards will be presented to runners of all ages, with 14 and under being the youngest category.
All proceeds will benefit the Harvard Conservation Trust, a nonprofit organization that has worked to protect the town’s open spaces for more than 37 years. The Trust has helped to conserve over 700 acres of land since its inception, including an important parcel of five acres on South Shaker Road, which has recently been permanently preserved.
Runners and walkers who register by Sept. 1 will receive a discounted entry fee and a free T-shirt. Trust members will receive an even greater discount. We hope that people will come out and have fun with us on the 12th. For more information and to register, go to www.runforthehills.org.
