The following events occurred during the Press’ four-week summer break.
Friday, July 9
At 12:56 p.m. a caller from the General Store reported that three boys had taken some ice cream sandwiches from the store without paying. An officer located the boys in back of Bromfield and escorted them back to the store to pay for the goods. No charges were filed.
Saturday, July 10
At 12:14 a.m. police responded to the scene of a single-car accident on Myrick Lane and arrested Harvard resident Michael Quinn, 61, for operating under the influence of alcohol. Quinn was taken to Nashoba Valley Medical Center; the car was towed. At 9:41 a.m. a South Shaker Road resident reported that someone had taken a birdbath from his yard. A family member later found it in the garage.
Monday, July 12
A caller from a business on Ayer Road reported at 5:02 p.m. that $205 had been stolen from a safe. Police found no sign of forced entry; doors and windows were locked from the inside. The case is under investigation.
Tuesday, July 13
A neighbor, asked to check on a vacant house for sale on Depot Road, reported at 2:32 p.m. finding the basement door open and the basement flooded. According to Detective Jack Izzo, police believe that someone attempted to steal copper pipe from the home. The case is under investigation. At 11:17 p.m. a Prospect Hill Road resident reported that the door to his car, which was parked in his driveway, was open, and the GPS unit that was in it had been stolen.
Wednesday, July 14
At 12:30 a.m. the Prospect Hill Road caller who had his GPS stolen reported seeing a car parked at the overlook with its door ajar. Police did not locate the vehicle.
Thursday, July 15
At 3:57 p.m. a woman stopped at the station with her daughter to report that her daughter had been physically assaulted by her boyfriend. The girl sustained bruises, but refused treatment, and her car was damaged during the incident. Police advised her of her right to take out a restraining order. They located Michael Hazel, 19, of Westcott Road, at the Depot Road soccer field, and arrested him for domestic assault and battery.
Sunday, July 18
At 11:01 a.m. a caller reported that a scooter parked at the old library had been knocked over by another vehicle. There were no witnesses to the incident.
Monday, July 19
At 5:06 a.m. a caller reported that a street sign at Oak Hill and Cleaves Hill roads had been damaged. The responding officer found the sign missing and the post on the ground, and notified the DPW. At 7:03 a.m. a contractor working on a building on Ayer Road reported that someone had broken into the locked toolbox in his truck and had stolen some tools. The case is under investigation.
Friday, July 23
At 1:28 p.m. a Depot Road resident reported that her home had been burglarized. Police found that someone had entered the unlocked home and stolen a computer and computer games. The next day Leominster police stopped a car for a motor vehicle violation and arrested the driver after finding some of the stolen items in his car. At 6:34 p.m. a caller reported that her wallet had been taken at the town beach, and unauthorized charges were showing up on her credit card. The case is under investigation.
Saturday, July 24
At 3:59 p.m. a woman reported that she had stopped by her parents’ home on Ayer Road to check it out while they were away and discovered some items missing. Police are investigating.
Sunday, July 25
At 1:28 a.m. police stopped a car on Mass Ave. for a traffic violation and arrested the driver, Vincent DiMauro, 30, of Wilmington, for operating under the influence of alcohol.
Monday, July 26
At 9:09 a.m. a DPW worker reported that, while setting up to do some work on Ayer Road, he was struck lightly by the mirror of a passing car. He did not get the vehicle’s plate number, but described it as an older Toyota Camry.
Tuesday, July 27
Fire officers responding to a report of smoke near the Route 2 bridge at 9:11 a.m. discovered it was from a nearby cooking fire and instructed the homeowner to extinguish it.
Thursday, July 29
At 8:41 a.m. police received a report of a burglary at a home on Bolton Road. During the night, when the owners were asleep, someone entered the home and took a laptop computer. Detective Izzo reported that there was no sign of forced entry and that most of the doors were unlocked. The case is under investigation.
Friday, July 30
At 9:35 a.m. a Westcott Road resident reported that a flat-screen TV had been stolen from her Chevy Suburban, which was parked in her driveway. A flashlight was stolen from her son’s vehicle. The case is under investigation. A Bolton Road resident reported at 3:46 p.m. that a GPS system had been taken from his vehicle during the night. That case is also under investigation.
