We want to thank the many people who gave their time and energy to make this year’s 4th of July events so successful. There are, of course, the 4th of July Committee members, who despite little time, little money, and nearly all being new to the job, did truly amazing work to pull together this year’s activities. They include Colin Dangle, Arline Marteney, Betsy Starr, Sandra Kimball, Amy Stoller, Ellen Leicher, Jill Lee, Katie Petrossi, Leslie Neville, Thomas Caulfield, Pat Jennings, Marie Sobalvarro, and Steve Peisch. We are very proud of their efforts and ability to continue the legacy of 4th of July here in town.
The committee had plenty of help from others in town. A big thanks to the folks who volunteered to help sell T-shirts and manage field events; the General Store for allowing us to sell the T-shirts at the store; the Harvard Press for promoting all the events; Tim Firment and Fruitlands Museum for hosting a spectacular evening; the Harvard Lions Club and the Fire Department, who made parking 1,000 cars at Fruitlands look easy; the Police Department, who made getting 1,000 cars out of Fruitlands easy; Harvard Department of Public Works for assistance setting up and cleaning up; Roche Bros. for donation of pies; Steve and Mary Ellen Miller and Debbie Ferguson for their mentorship; Ed Carter, the world’s best emcee; the several musical performers who donated their talents; and the team at Town Hall—Loraine Leonard, Fred Aponte, Vicki Smith, Lisa Parker, Tim Bragan, and Julie Doucet—for helping us get started. And finally, a thank-you to everyone in Harvard who bought a T-shirt— we truly appreciate the support.
All the money raised Friday night at Fruitlands benefited the committee to pay for this year’s fireworks, leaving us with some money for next year. The Fire Department and Lions Club donated their time and expertise but did not receive or request any donations from the evening.
