I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who helped with the third-grade For Art’s Sake “Tiny Books—Giant Knowledge” Art and Literacy Project over the last month at the Hildreth Elementary School. Thank you to each of the third-grade teachers: Arlene Sullivan, Sharlene Tuttle, Rob Cullinane, and Judy Moore, who were encouraging and keen about the project from the start, Principal Mary Beth Banios for supporting the project right from the idea stage; to art teacher Cindy Harris for making room for us in her classroom and showing us great ways to print; and to library/media specialist Peggy Harvey for her creative ideas and enthusiasm.
I’m indebted to art teachers Sharon Chandler and Julie Cook, who offered invaluable advice and generously lent materials. Thanks also to our Book Expo experts: Larry Malam, Mary Wilson, and Abby Kingsbury; and to Amy Bernhardt, Kate Pullano, and Carolyn Carbonell for generously sharing their time and talent.
Finally, thanks to the classroom volunteers: Carolyn Carbonell, Kate Pullano, Tim Clark, Melissa Yahia, and Pam Cochrane who were on hand for six weeks of workshops, sharing their creativity with patience and making every lesson fun! Books are now on display in the children’s room at the Harvard Public Library through the end of July. Thanks everyone for your support.
