WW II vet, father and grandfather of Harvard residents

Mark D. Lurvey, 87, of Shirley, formerly of Littleton, died May 21, 2010, at Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton.
He was born in Lebanon, Maine, on June 11, 1922, son of the late Ralph E. and Rose (Dunnells) Lurvey. He received his B.S. degree from Suffolk University in 1954, and his master’s degree from Boston University in 1961.
Mark worked for 33 years in the field of public health and for the past 20 years was a public health advisor for the U.S. Public Health Service in Washington and Boston.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mark was a longtime member of the Littleton Lions Club and a member of the Littleton Congregational Church.
Mark is survived by his wife, Barbara (Mentzer) Lurvey of Shirley; three sons, Mark Lurvey Jr. of Ayer, Brad Lurvey of Nantucket, and Brian Lurvey of Harvard; and daughter, Brenda Russell of Shirley; seven grandchildren, Brian Lurvey of Ayer, Keith Lurvey of Groton, Andrew and Matthew Lurvey, both of Boston, Jake Lurvey of Harvard, and Michelle Russell and Brianne Russell, both of Shirley. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Keith and Kyle Lurvey of Groton.
