Two boats from Bromfield Rowing raced at the USRowing Youth National Championships in Cincinnati during the weekend of June 11-13. The girls double came in sixth and the boys four came in 13th. This was the first time that Bromfield Rowing had any boats qualifying for this national event.
The event included both high school teams as well as large rowing clubs. Rowers came from throughout the U.S. to compete in this event. The girls boat included freshmen Caroline Hart and Olivia MacLean, who were not only the sole freshmen to make the finals, consisting of six boats, but were also the only high school club in the finals. The five remaining boats in the finals were large regional clubs that included the winner, Detroit Boat Club, as well as Long Beach, CRI (Boston), Connecticut Boat Club, and Pocock Rowing (Seattle, Wash.). There were 22 boats in the girls double event.
The boys four consisted of senior Mike Child, junior Kendall Cotton, sophomores Scott Blackwell and Sam Ginouves, and the coxswain, junior Diana Fox. Blackwell substituted for senior Connor Finnegan who could not attend this race.
Two weeks prior, the same Bromfield boats competed at Scholastic Nationals, which includes boats whose rowers are from the same high schools. At Scholastics both boats finished well; the girls double won a silver metal and the boys came in seventh.
