It was a standing-room-only crowd that gathered in Volunteers Hall last Saturday night for the second Harvard Community Talent Show, presented by the Harvard Friends of the Arts. The enthusiastic crowd was treated to a marathon of music, humor, and poetry. There were too many wonderful moments to fit in this letter. It is a wonder to behold what a creative and talented community there is in our little town.
We would like to thank the performers and the audience for making it a night to remember. We also thank the many volunteers who put in long hours to make this program such a success. Di Hall chaired the program this year. Bob Eiland directed. Mark Hastings provided the sound. Lights were ably managed by Keith Turner. Alice von Loesecke accompanied many of the performers on piano. The intricate stage managing was done by our nimble volunteers Judy Wong and Joan Eliyesil. Danno Sullivan was a wonderful emcee this year and Becca Turner was music director for our finale. Thanks also to Maureen Remeika and Ken Nygren for their behind-the-scenes help.
As always, we thank Mary Wilson and the Harvard Public Library staff for their assistance, as well as the Library Trustees for their support.
The Friends of the Arts programs are made possible in large part by funding from the Friends of the Library. That funding primarily comes from our membership drive (going on now) and our annual book sale which is this weekend, May 8 to 9 and next Saturday, May 15.
Our final event for the season is Saturday, May 22, when we will be presenting master storyteller and musician Odds Bodkin at Volunteers Hall, performing “The Odyssey: In the Belly of the Beast.” This is sure to “sell out;” seats can be reserved by calling 978-456-4114.
