The Friends of the Harvard Public Library held the first two days of its annual book sale last weekend at the old library. Many happy customers left with stacks of new reading and FOHPL has raised about $9,000 and still counting. The last day of the sale is Saturday, May 15, from 9 a.m. to noon. There are still thousands of great books left.
The money FOHPL raises goes back to Harvard citizens in the form of children’s programs, Friends of the Arts programs in Volunteers Hall, museum passes, books, and equipment needed by HPL.
On behalf of FOHPL, we thank the dozens of people who donated thousands of books for the sale. Year after year, we are truly amazed at the quality of the books as well as the sheer volume of donations from such a small town.
Thanks to the selectmen for allowing us to use the old library once again. It is the ideal location—appreciated by volunteers and customers alike.
Special thanks to our tireless volunteers, for the hundreds of hours that go into pulling off this event. They gave up their Saturday mornings to help sort books and work at the sale. The Friends Committee was also heavily involved in the planning and execution of the sale: Deborah Sauvé (who does a fabulous job managing the “specials”), Kathy Boisvert (treasurer extraordinaire), Vicki Maxant (who manages the huge number of kids books), Gwen Cook, and Maureen Remeika gave their time, talent and energy. Thanks also to Library Director Mary Wilson and her staff for their support.
