All boaters on Bare Hill Pond owe a debt of gratitude to Tom Cotton for the work he did to bust a foot or more off the tops of the most dangerous rocks in Bare Hill Pond.
With the pond low and the ice hard, Tom proposed to bust up the rocks that have bedeviled boaters for many years. Despite many who thought (and stated to Tom) that this was a crazy idea, and despite an initial destruction of more sledge handles than rocks, Tom persisted to get appropriate approvals for heavier equipment from town boards, organized a small group of volunteers, funded the rental of a generator and heavier equipment, and worked countless hours over several weekends to bust up the tops of the highest rocks.
It was slow and arduous work, but as a result of his efforts, and the efforts of a small band of cohorts, the pond is much safer for the dagger boards, propellers, crew shells, and, most of all, the people who enjoy being in boats on the pond. Thank you, Tom.
