Override question to be drafted
While reviewing proposed warrant articles and ballot questions, Selectwoman Lucy Wallace asked, “Where is the override question for the library?” Wallace reminded the board that the Library Trustees had asked to have a warrant article and override ballot question if there is a difference between the budget supported by the Finance Committee and the state mandated Municipal Appropriation Requirement (MAR) budget.
Wallace said that trustees don’t yet know if the Finance Committee will support their full budget request, so they don’t know if the override will be needed. Town Administrator Tim Bragan said that a ballot question must include the exact amount requested, and that the ballot must be voted at least 35 days prior to the May 4 election (March 30). The board voted to have Bragan draft a question, with the amount to be filled in when it is known. If no override is needed, the question can be removed.
