NENPA recognizes winning photos by Aciukewicz

February 19, 2010

The New England Newspaper and Press Association (NENPA) announced last week that Harvard Press photographer Lisa Aciukewicz was a two-time winner in the organization’s 2009 Better Newspaper contest.

In the division of Weekly Newspaper, Class 1, Aciukewicz won first place in the Photo Series category for her photos covering the December 2008 ice storm. Judges commented, “Excellent variety of shots that made a complete package. Good use of close-ups and varying camera angles to tell the story.”

In the same newspaper division, she won second place in the General News Photo category for her front-page photo in the Jan. 23, 2009, issue of the Press, depicting students at Bromfield viewing President Obama’s inauguration. Judges said, “This photo captures a bright and patriotic moment in the nation’s history. Not your typical inauguration photo.”
