At present one’s life expectancy is about 80 years. The question many times asked is, at what point should people be excused from increased property taxes as long as they continue to live at their same residence? I don’t think 80 years of age is an unreasonable point at which to initiate this. After all, these people have supported the system well after a time when their children required public support, and well after their retirement, which resulted in a fixed income.
A lesser alternative would be to exempt these townspeople from any further increase in assessments. Some would like to continue their years where they are, without the threat of being forced to move because of taxes they can no longer afford. It just seems like a step in the right direction at minimal cost.
