We are lucky to have two quality candidates to choose from for selectman, Marie Sobalvarro and Bill Johnson. I’m familiar with Bill Johnson’s work for the Pond Committee through his discussions with the Conservation Commission. I’m also familiar with Marie Sobalvarro’s work on the Finance Committee. While both are good, I believe that Marie is the better choice in the upcoming election.
I know of no one who has a better grasp of the fiscal issues facing Harvard. With likely cuts in local aid this year and next, Harvard has an immediate need for a selectman with intimate knowledge of our current financial situation, one who has thought about and discussed potential options for mitigating the impact of these cuts and has plans for improving Harvard’s financial base going forward.
In addition to her obvious expertise, Marie would add diversity to our Board of Selectmen. A woman with an MBA will bring a perspective to our BOS that is currently lacking. We can only benefit when views from different life experiences are an integral part of decisions impacting the future of our town. I urge Harvard voters to select Marie Sobalvarro at the election Dec. 8.
