For the past seven years the Harvard Elementary School fourth and fifth grades have been welcomed into Roche Bros Acton to enjoy math problems as they apply to everyday life. Each year this event is met with enthusiastic response. The event was initiated by a Harvard parent and has been going strong since its inception.
We first thank Ellen Leicher for bringing this event to our town. Second, we thank the Harvard Schools Trust for offering a yearly grant to fund this event and to bring a math game to each of the children who participate. Third, we thank Roche Bros. Acton for welcoming a little mayhem into the store (which remains open during this event!) and providing staff and goodie bags each year. Fourth, we thank all the parent and Bromfield student volunteers, who come out to bring this event to life each year. Fifth, we thank each of the fourth- and fifth-grade teachers and the math curriculum coordinator, Gretchen Henry, for successfully reminding Harvard Elementary School students that, yes, math can be fun! Last but not least, we thank all those rockin’ fourth- and fifth-graders and their parents for coming out to attend this event each year.
