Supports Sobalvarro

October 9, 2009

As a member of the League of Women Voters, I was pleased when Marie Sobalvarro joined the League a couple of years ago. Marie brought a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to our ranks as well as sharing my strong belief that voters are entitled to thorough, accurate, and unbiased sources of information before they can cast educated votes or make informed decisions on matters of public policy.

To this end, Marie proposed and helped shepherd a series of educational, nonpartisan forums on issues of interest to voters, including one on Lyme disease, special education, municipal finance, and Vicksburg Square/Devens. A forum on housing issues is upcoming.

Many people have told me how helpful these forums have been to their understanding of the topics. Marie deserves so much of the credit! She has a wonderful talent for conceptualizing issues and balancing viewpoints, and a wide range of knowledgeable contacts to draw on.

Finally, it must be said that Marie is the type of engaged and committed townsperson that keeps a place like Harvard vital. She has young children and volunteers in many of their activities; yet she still finds time to participate in the civic life of town, including serving on the Finance Committee. I’m proud to be her friend, her League of Women Voters colleague, and her supporter in the race for selectman.
