Bromfield Rowing girls’ coach Holly Hatton was the coxswain in the winning boat in a field of 23 in the senior master women’s eight event at the Head of the Charles Regatta Oct. 17 in Cambridge. Before becoming the Bromfield women’s coach this year, Hatton was head coach of Boston University women’s crew team, and prior to that she was women’s novice coach at Harvard/Radcliffe.
Hatton was the coxswain chosen for the 1980 Olympic eight team and won a gold medal at the Swiss and Dutch National Championship during the Olympic boycott. For the past 26 years, members of the 1980 team have reunited to race at the Head of the Charles, the world’s largest two-day rowing event, which draws more than 8,000 rowers from the U.S. and abroad.
Hatton was a silver medalist at the 1978 World Championship fours and a bronze medalist in the 1979 World Championship eights. In 1981, she was a member of the U.S. eight that won a gold medal at the Henley Royal Regatta in England.
