Lions Fall Festival
The Harvard Lions Fall Festival will take place at the Hazel farm, 150 Ayer Road, starting Friday, Sept. 18, with the Battle of the Bands, and continuing Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19 and 20. Gates open at 5 p.m. Friday; festival hours Saturday are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a concert and fireworks from 6 to 10 p.m.; Sunday hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature a craft show on Saturday and Sunday, a “Kids’ Carnival,” a barbecue cook-off, and more. Festival admission for the Battle of the Bands is $5 per person, all ages. Daytime admission Saturday and Sunday is $5 per person, all ages. Car Wash at Transfer Station
The Girl Scouts of Cadette Troop 30744 will hold a car wash at the transfer station Saturday, Sept. 19, from 8 to 11 a.m., to raise money to purchase new flags for the scouts to use in the Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades and other ceremonies. Cost is $5 per car.
Music at Farmers’ Market
The Bolton acoustic folk duo, the Dan and Faith Band, will perform at the Harvard Farmers’ Market Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by the band Pandemonium, which will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Farmers’ Market takes place in front of the elementary school from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Barns on View
For Art’s Sake, in collaboration with the Harvard Public Library, is exhibiting a collection of barn-themed paintings at the library. The exhibit features the work of local artists Sue Ginouves, Judy Warner, Sue Fitterman, and Colleen Pearce, and will be on display through Dec. 30. Chamber Music Concert
Row 12 Chamber Ensemble will perform “Drops in the Stream – A Concert of Music, Poetry, and Dance” Sunday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Harvard Public Library’s Volunteers Hall. The Row 12 Chamber Ensemble, a branch of the Boston Theater Group, specializes in bringing innovative modern works to New England audiences through chamber music.
Boy Scout Potluck Picnic

Fall into Fashion
Friends of the Harvard Council on Aging (COA) will host its second annual Fall into Fashion event to support Harvard seniors Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6:30 p.m. at Fruitlands Museum. Garden Club Meeting
The Garden Club of Harvard will hold its first fall luncheon meeting Monday, Sept. 28, at 11:15 a.m. at Holy Trinity Parish, formerly St. Theresa’s. The free program, to which the public is invited, will feature guest speaker Roger Swain, best known for hosting the PBS television show The Victory Garden. Swain will give advice about vegetable and fruit gardening. A light lunch will be served, followed by a short business meeting. Jazz After Hours
Fruitlands Museum and Indian Hill Music will present Jazz After Hours Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 5:30 p.m. at the museum’s Tea Room. Doors open at 5 p.m. Jazz pianist Pamela Hines will perform a mix of mainstream jazz standards and original tunes from her CDs 9:45 and Drop 2, with Justin Meyer on bass and recording artist Miki Matsuki on drums. Covered Bridges of New England
The Harvard Historical Society will open its “Covered Bridges of New England” exhibit Friday, Oct. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m at the Harvard Historical Society in Still River. The opening will feature a talk by Bill Caswell, an authority on covered bridges in Massachusetts, and jazz by the Still River Band. The exhibit will be open on three consecutive Sundays, Oct. 4, 11, and 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. It features the photographs and memorabilia of the late William Maxant, Harvard resident and founder of Maxant Industries.
Shaker Lecture and Dinner
Fruitlands Museum will host a Shaker-inspired dinner and a lecture highlighting Shaker industries and spiritual beliefs Friday, Oct. 2, at 5 p.m. at the museum. Curator of Collections Dr. Michael Volmar offers a free lecture on the history of the Harvard and Shirley Shaker villages from the late 1780s to 1918. Following the lecture, chef John Gagnon of Cast Iron Kitchen in Maynard will present a meal made with local ingredients and Shaker recipes. Fruitlands Museum will host a Shaker auction Saturday, Oct. 3, at noon on the museum grounds, featuring items such as a rare cherry trestle table, seed shop desk, a sewing desk, and other furnishings and accessories. Concert at the Common
The Lydian String Quartet will perform the first concert in the Concerts at the Common classical music series Sunday, Oct. 4, at 4 p.m. at the Harvard Unitarian Universalist Church. The Lydian’s Oct. 4 program will feature Haydn’s Opus 33 # 3 “The Bird,” Shostakovich’s “Unfinished Quartet” and Beethoven’s “Opus 127 in E Flat.” Series tickets are $45 for all three concerts; single concert tickets are $18. Apple Harvest Ramble 10-Mile Race
The Harvard Road Race Association will sponsor the 18th Apple Harvest Ramble Road Race Sunday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m., starting and ending at Fruitlands Museum. Online pre-registration for the 10-mile race is available at www.harvardraces.org. Race-day registration will be held at Fruitlands Museum from 9 to 10 a.m. The entry fee is $30. Runners age 65 and older can register for $15. T-shirts are available for $15. There will be seven male and female age divisions with cash prizes totaling $2,250 for the top finishers in each division. There will also be awards for the top Harvard resident finishers in each division. A $200 cash prize will be awarded for a new course record.

Cat Adopt-a-Thon
The Volunteer Humane Society will hold an adopt-a-thon and yard sale at its shelter, 505 Center Bridge Road in Lancaster. The yard sale will be Friday, Sept. 18, and Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the adopt-a-thon will be Saturday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Adoption fees are $100 for kittens, $60 for young adult females, $40 for young adult males, and cats over three years old are free. All cats have been spayed or neutered, are felv/fiv negative, and are up-to-date on their shots.
New England Barn Dance
A traditional New England barn dance to raise funds for the Shirley Center Town Hall will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the historic Center Hall on the Common. Two Fiddles will play New England, Celtic, and American traditional tunes comprising reels, jigs, and polkas. Caller Dudley Laufman will teach square, circle, and contra dances. Beginners are welcome; it is not necessary to bring a partner. Suggested donations for admission are $10 for adults and $5 for children age 10 to 18; children under age 10 are free. Russian Icon Inspired Exhibit
