COA presents program on life losses
On Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 1 p.m., the Council on Aging will offer a program on life losses. It will be presented at Hildreth House by Margaret Ledger, the bereavement coordinator from Nashoba Nursing Service and Hospice. The program will focus on acknowledging losses, accepting reality, remembering good things, and looking for the things people can appreciate to help them make the most of today. On the road with COA

Thursday, Aug. 27: The COA has organized a trip to Gloucester for a whale watch. The group will leave Hildreth House at 8:30 a.m. and will stop for a quick lunch before setting sail at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $45 in advance, plus lunch.
Wednesday, Sept. 16: The COA is planning a trip to the Museum of Russian Icons in Clinton. More than 20 new icons will be on exhibit, including the most significant purchase of Byzantine art by an American museum. After the tour the group will stop for lunch at Old Timer Restaurant in Clinton. The group will leave Hildreth House at 9 a.m. Cost is $5 plus lunch.
Tuesday, Sept. 22: COA travelers will head for Vermont, where they will board the Green Mountain Flyer for an historic train ride from Bellows Falls to Chester Depot, enjoying the scenery from the comfort of a restored 1913 Rutland Railcar. After lunch at the Heritage Deli and Bakery in Chester, the group will head down Route 103, with a brief stop at the Vermont Country Store to stock up on maple syrup, cheese, and souvenirs. The group will leave Hildreth House at 8:15 a.m. and return around 5 p.m. Cost is $30 plus lunch.
Reservations are due soon for fall trips
Friday, Oct. 2: This trip to Boston includes lunch at the Venezia Waterfront Restaurant and a 45-minute tour of the Boston Winery, where guests can sample five varieties of award-winning wine. Lunch (choice of baked haddock, chicken Parmigiana, steak tips, or ravioli) is included, for a total cost of $50.
Thursday, Nov. 5: Participants on this trip to Sturbridge will take in the professional off-Broadway production, This is My Country, in Cabaret Lulu at the Old Sturbridge Village Theatre. Lunch, which will be at the Old Sturbridge Village Tavern, includes a choice of meat pie with brown gravy or grilled salmon with dill-butter sauce. The cost of $48 includes the show, lunch, and transportation.
Friday, Dec. 18: The COA has organized an excursion to the Hanover Theatre in Worcester to see A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens’ classic tale of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge. There are a limited number of up-close orchestra seats available for $50 each.
Thursday, Dec. 31: New Year’s Eve revelers can celebrate in Boston starting at noon with a special New Year’s Eve luncheon at the Top of the Hub, in the Prudential Tower. Cost is $60.
