Longtime resident, town volunteer
Rachel Elizabeth Guild, 80, died peacefully at Apple Valley Health Care Center June 9, 2009. A town resident for nearly 50 years, Rachel was an active member of the Congregational Church of Harvard, United Church of Christ, was a dedicated volunteer for Loaves & Fishes, and ran the kitchen at the annual Good Friday walk for many years.
Rachel was born in Kennebunk, Maine. Her parents were Arthur Lee Kierstead and Helen Elizabeth (Clark) Kierstead.
Rachel was a veteran of the United States Army, Women’s Army Corps. While serving in the Army, she met her husband, Arthur, to whom she was married for 35 years. They moved to Still River in 1960. Rachel worked in the cafeterias at both the elementary and Bromfield schools.
Rachel loved her church and the family she had there. She also loved to knit, read, and travel.
Survivors include her brother, James, and his wife, Lenora, of North Hampton, N.H.; two sons, Scott and Timothy, both of Harvard; and a daughter, Laurie, and her husband, Roger, of Middletown, Conn.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Congregational church Saturday, June 13 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery in Kennebunk, Maine on Monday, June 15.
