Jones cruises (again) to state two-mile title

June 12, 2009

Bromfield’s Emily Jones capped a spectacular high school track career when she easily won the MIAA All-State 2-mile run at Fitchburg State College on June 6.

Jones finished just two seconds off the state record as she won her fourth consecutive title in the event. She has also won two indoor and three cross-country state championships.

Two Bromfield relay teams also scored points in the meet, which helped the Trojans secure 14th place. The 4×400-meter relay team of Lexi Daniells, Kim West, Mimi Narbonne, and Catherine Finnegan placed fifth, while the 4×800-meter relay squad—Jones, Lisa Reedich, Sydney Durand, and Alyssa Swindells—rallied for a sixth-place finish. Jones’ 2:18 split, the fastest leg she has run this year at the distance, brought Bromfield back from last.

Finnegan was 11th in the long jump, and Narbonne and Daniells finished 16th and 19th, respectively, in the 400-meter dash.
