Walking the Fruitlands Landscape
Fruitlands curator Mike Volmar will lead a walking tour of the Fruitlands property Saturday, June 20, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Volmar will lead participants in discovering the geology, ecology, wildlife habitat, and archaeology of the Fruitlands property. (6/19)
Apples: Art and Memory
Fruitlands Museum guest curators Sam Robbins and Shiela Robbins will lead a behind-the-scenes gallery tour of Fruitlands’ Nature of Apples exhibit Saturday, June 20, at 2 p.m. at the Fruitlands Gallery. The Robbinses will describe and explain subtleties of many of the 50 paintings that have apples as the main subject. (6/19)

The Parent-Teacher Organization sponsored Fun Fair will be held at the Pond Road field Monday, June 22, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m., with a rain date of Tuesday, June 23. The library will host a harp concert featuring Maria Rindenello Parker Monday, June 22, at 7 p.m. in Volunteers Hall. Talk on Edith Nourse Rogers
The Fort Devens Museum will present “Congresswoman Edith Nourse Rogers, the Mother of the WAC/WAAC and the Godmother of Fort Devens” Wednesday, June 24, at 1 p.m. in Conference Room 1 in the MassDevelopment office, 33 Andrews Parkway, Devens. Marcia Synnott, University of South Carolina professor of history emerita, will share her research on Rogers, who is known for co-sponsoring 1,200 pieces of legislation, many pertaining to veterans’ benefits and hospitals, encouraging the upgrade and continuation of Camp Devens after World War I; establishing the Women’s Army Corps during World War II; and inspiring other women to run for Congress. Coffeehouse to Benefit ‘African Aunties’
The Harvard Ecumenical Youth Group will sponsor a coffeehouse to benefit the “African Aunties” program Thursday, June 25, at 7 p.m. at the Harvard Public Library. Community performers age 10 and older are welcome; sign-up sheets will be available at the library. Proceeds will help 18-year-old Monicah Ndelesi Kivaa of Nairobi, Kenya pursue her dream to study biotechnology at Assumption College. Honk! Jr.
Superstar Productions will present the musical Honk! Jr. Saturday, June 27, at 2 p.m. and Sunday, June 28, at 2 p.m. in Cronin Auditorium. The play features a cast of 18 third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students from Harvard and Westford. It focuses on Ugly, a duckling who tries to find his way home and cope with being “different” with the help of a barnyard of creatures, including mischievous and hungry Cat and wisecracking Bullfrog. It is suggested for families with children age 4 and older. Advance tickets are now on sale; tickets will also be available at the door if not sold out. Reserved seats are $10 and general admission seats are $7; group discounts are available for groups of 10 or more. ‘Dances with Wood’ at Fruitlands
Site-specific choreographer Marta Renzi and her Project Company will perform “Dances with Wood” Sunday, June 28, at 2 p.m. at Fruitlands Museum. The dance, with American folk music played by Terri Roben, will take place in the shadow of Joseph Wheelwright’s sculpture “Oracle.” Ten local dancers will participate, including Harvard students Phoebe Clark, Thea Eiland, Hannah Johnson-Taylor, Helena Justicz, and Meilei Stanten. The performance is sponsored by Fruitlands Museum, Harvard Friends of the Arts, and the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Gates will open at 11 a.m. Admission is $20 per car. High School Musical 2 Performance
High School Musical 2 will be performed by Harvard middle school students at Lawrence Academy in Groton June 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. The show, directed by Anna and Kelly Banker, is appropriate for all ages. (6/19)

State Senator Jamie Eldridge will host a Community Budget Forum Tuesday, June 23, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Lincoln-Sudbury High School Lecture Hall (Room A217), 390 Lincoln Road, Sudbury. The forum is intended to give constituents an opportunity to learn more about the state budget process and proposed tax increases, ask questions, and voice their thoughts and concerns. NRWA Father’s Day Paddle
The Nashua River Watershed Association will offer a free guided Father’s Day Paddle Sunday, June 21, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m, beginning and ending at the Ayer Ice House dam. Paddlers will look for signs of wildlife and learn about the natural history of the Nashua River. They will travel about five miles one way along the river. Shuttle vans will return paddlers to the starting point. There is no charge if paddlers bring their own boats; paid rentals are available through Nashoba Paddler. Space is limited and pre-registration is required whether or not a rental boat is needed. Benefit Horseback Trail Ride
Willow Brook Farm will host the fifth annual Build a School in Africa Benefit Trail Ride Sunday, June 21, at Willow Brook Farm, 90 Mill St. in Groton. Fifty percent of the ride proceeds will be donated to the Build a School in Africa Project. The event, on Groton’s conservation lands, offers a short ride of 12 to 14 miles and a longer 20-mile ride. The ride is co-sponsored by the Local and Littleton Horse Owners Association, and is affiliated with New England Horse and Trail (NEHT); NEHT members may credit mileage for their participation. Riders may camp out the night before at no charge. The entry fee is $25 until June 17, and is $30 after that date. The fee includes coffee and breakfast, a snack on the trail, and an African buffet after the ride. Why Me & Sherry’s House in conjunction with the Colonial Figure Skating Club will offer “Skating for Sherry’s House” Friday, June 26, at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 27, at 2:00 p.m. at the Colonial Figure Skating Club, 34 Massachusetts Ave., Boxborough. The benefit exhibition will feature international and national figure skating competitors, including 2009 U.S. Bronze medalist, 2007 World Junior Champion and 2010 Olympic hopeful Caroline Zhang, as well as local skaters.
