Walkers seek support

May 8, 2009

On May 15, 16, and 17, 52 women and men, more than half of whom are from Bolton and Harvard, will be walking 60 miles in the seventh annual Just ’Cause 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk. This walk raises funds for the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden here in Harvard and the Gillette Center for Breast Cancer at Mass General. Over the last six years the Just ’Cause walk has raised almost three-quarters of a million dollars with your help. We walk in memory of those who have lost their battle with cancer and in honor of those survivors who are living with it. You can be part of helping those that are battling cancer today.

On the 16th, the first annual Just ’Cause We Can walk (3.5 miles) is being held in conjunction with the Just ’Cause walk. This is a family walk—open to friends, family, neighbors—anyone who wants to help in the struggle against cancer. We hope that you can join us.

The Healing Garden provides a range of complementary therapies, psychosocial support, educational programs and access to nature to help those experiencing breast cancer through their struggle. All therapies are integrated with and complementary to standard medical treatment for breast cancer.

Funds directed to the Gillette Center will be used for either a research project looking at the response of certain types of tumors to hormonal therapies or an investigation into tailoring breast cancer treatments to individual patients to improve outcomes.

To make a donation to the Just ’Cause walk, mail checks to P.O. Box 132, Bolton, MA 01740. Make checks out to Just ’Cause, indicating in the memo line whether the contribution should to go to the Healing Garden or the Gillette Center. Just ’Cause is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. If you would like us to walk in honor or in memory of someone whose life has been touched by cancer, let us know.
