Sam Dorward and Nicholas Kronauer led the varsity boys’ track team to fifth place in the District E Class C meet at Shrewsbury on Saturday, May 16. Sutton, Lunenburg, Whitinsville Christian, and Ayer took the top four spots in the meet, which included 13 schools.
Senior Dorward (10 points) and Kronauer (8 points), a freshman, scored 18 of Bromfield’s 55 points as they placed first and second in the 1-mile run with times of 4:45 and 4:50, respectively. Throughout the season, Dorward and Kronauer have pushed each other to faster times and first- and second-place finishes in many races.
Freshman Jair Cruikshank was third in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing four seconds ahead of the fourth-place finisher with a time of 1:01, good for six points. Cruikshank is the only 400-meter hurdler on the team. “I was anxious as I waited. I knew I had to do well, and that this was my only chance to do it,” he said.
Junior Andrew Ojemann placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 24.76, which was .73 off his own school record that he has set and broken repeatedly in the past year.
Freshman Ellis Toll placed fifth in the two-mile in 10:51 as he outdistanced the closest of five freshman in the race by 12 seconds.
