Selectmen offer scholarships
The Board of Selectmen will offer financial assistance to Bromfield seniors through the Ginny Thurston Scholarship Fund. Interested students should write to the selectmen’s office at 13 Ayer Road, Harvard, MA 01451 no later than May 22, listing their community and extracurricular activities, and stating where they are headed after graduation.
The board will also offer financial assistance to second- and third-year college students from trust funds left to the town by Sarah Watson. Applications are available at the selectmen’s office and need to be returned to the trustee by July 1. Attorney David Taylor, the sole trustee of the Sarah Watson Trust, will make final decisions on scholarship awards.
Students walk to school for Earth Day
Harvard Elementary School students have been challenged to walk, ride the bus, or car pool to school Tuesday, April 28, as part of an Earth Day challenge. Walkers are invited to congregate at one of three designated areas and form a “walking school bus,” picking up any families and their friends who live on the route. Parent escorts are required for each route. Parents of students who live beyond these meet-up locations are encouraged to drop them off or walk them to the locations.
Students are asked to meet at these locations at 7:45 a.m., with the walk to school scheduled to start at 8 a.m.:
- Carlson’s Orchard parking lot
- Armstrong Road, between Bolton Road and East Bare Hill Road
- Depot Road soccer field parking lot
Expected arrival at HES is between 8:20 and 8:30 a.m., when walkers and parent escorts are invited to gather in the cafeteria for light refreshments. At 8:45 a.m. students will head off to class..
Parks and Rec extends boat storage lottery
The Parks and Recreation Commission has extended the deadline for registering for the lottery for a boat slip, mooring, or canoe rack at the town beach until Sunday, May 3. The lottery will be held at the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting Monday, May 4, in the former Children’s Room of the old library.
