Dens 6 and 9 of Harvard Cub Scout Pack 10 made a trip to Battleship Cove in Fall River, Saturday, March 28, to explore the world’s largest collection of historic naval ships. After touring the battleship Massachusetts, destroyer Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., submarine Lionfish, and the Soviet-built missile corvette Hiddensee, the scouts and their parents spent the night on the destroyer Joseph P. Kennedy Jr.
Battleship Cove’s Nautical Nights program included movies, an infantry presentation, knot tying, and Morse code. The trip has enabled the scouts to better understand and appreciate the sacrifices made by veterans of all military branches in all wars.
According to scouts of Den 6, the most memorable parts of the trip include sleeping in the bunks on the destroyer, the rotating turrets and 16-inch guns on the battleship, the submarine periscope, and the captain’s quarters.
